Hey guys! This week was my school's Homecoming Week. Usually, Homecoming weeks center around the school's football team. However, my school's football team was actually dissolved three years ago, when I was a freshman. We still continued the tradition, however, because Homecoming, in my school at least, is WAY more than about football. In fact, football really wasn't the main thing people looked forward to at my school; we all eagerly anticipated the themes, decorations, skits, and performances put on by each of the classes. The performances include singing, Bollywood, Kpop dancing, and even martial arts. It's really fun and amazing to watch everything come together. Each class has a day in the week to perform. Mondays are for freshmen, Tuesdays for sophomores, Wednesdays for juniors, and Thursdays for seniors! Each class also has a different theme. Freshmen chose to perform a skit about Monsters Inc., sophomores chose Beauty and the Beast, juniors picked Black Panther, and the seniors picked Spiderman. We alter the storylines to fit in with our academics, school culture, and society's current events, often bringing up the SATs, AP tests, Donald Trump, and other subjects. Parent judges evaluate each class. The Friday before the actual Homecoming week, we had an assembly to get us all hyped for the upcoming week. That assembly consisted of a skit put on my the homecoming administrators, and the displays of the homecoming court nominees (king, queen, knight, and jester). As for class colors, freshmen are blue, sophomores are yellow, juniors are black, and seniors are red, and we wear our colors everyday during the week, except for Friday. On Friday, we wear green for unity. Since Homecoming Week is all about each of the classes competing for first place, the last day is dedicated to unity as a school. I'd like to take a second to talk about some senior traditions, since I am a senior myself this year. We create something called a senior lounge. Here's a picture: On the day of the freshmen performances (Monday), we also gather at 7:30 AM at school to walk around the school for a good ten minutes screaming our chants, including "meme team nineteen", "one nine fresh and fine," and "hoo-hah you wish you were a senior". It's really, really fun. For the upperclassmen, we also have dress up days. It's the same themes every year, but the themes are different for the junior and senior classes. For seniors, Mondays are either nerd or senior citizen, Tuesdays are either toga or hippie, Wednesdays are superheroes of your choice, and Thursdays are class shirts (which I designed for my class this year!) Like I said before, it's different for the juniors: Mondays are for pajamas, Tuesdays are formal, and so on. Here were my outfits for each day of the week: Monday: nerd Tuesday: hippie Wednesday: superhero (I didn't have any superhero gear, so I made a flash emblem and taped it on my shirt. Super jank, but hey, it works.) Thursday: class shirt (As you can tell, I really love wacky socks.) The Friday night of the same Homecoming week, we also have something called the Homecoming Extravaganza which is a casual dance. I wouldn't even call it a dance, because everyone who goes just gathers around the outdoor amphitheater with a DJ playing music. There's food, bouncy houses, photobooths, Dance Dance Revolution, and much more. I personally never go to these things; that's just me. The event is also where they announce who won Homecoming court, and also which class did the best with their skit, decorations, and performances! This year, seniors came first in all the categories. Overall, seniors were first place, sophomores were second, juniors were third, and freshmen were last. Now, here are some pics of senior day! Morning of senior day - getting decorations ready! Kpop performances! And our amazing decorations in the back, just look at all the awesome backdrops. Seniors' last homecoming. The last 10 minutes of the performance, all of the seniors run up on stage, jamming out to music and chanting our spirit chants.
I was super happy yet really sad on senior day. I was eagerly anticipating our performances, but I knew that this was the last time I would partake in something like this. When all the seniors convened on stage, singing "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa (which coincidentally, Furious 7 was our theme for freshmen homecoming, so the song's message itself and the meaning to our class relates a lot to our last day of homecoming), I started crying, A LOT. Actually, tears started welling up in my eyes when our skit ended, because our skit writers referred back to a lot of our memories of our past homecoming performances, and the messages that were laid out were just sweet and wholesome in general. But up there, with all my classmates, singing and swaying together, feeling extremely united, amplified my feelings and emotions. I'm going to miss interacting with my classmates every day, the people I've grown up with for 6 years now, beginning in middle school when we all first met each other. It's pretty sad thinking about how I'm never going to see most of these people ever again. I'm honestly not ready to leave my high school and all the people I love! But again, like I emphasized in a lot of my posts about college, I'm really excited to be embarking on this new chapter in my life next year, and hopefully I meet some wonderful people and make more great memories. And hopefully my class of 2019 will host some rad get togethers in the future so we can gather and reminisce about our high school experiences. That was it for today's post. I hope you all enjoyed reading it. Happy Sunday!
