Hey guys! Recently, my school hosted its annual winter dance. However, you all know I never attend these events. Instead of going, my friends and I decided to treat ourselves to a night out. It was a really wild adventure full of twists and turns, and I thought that night was interesting enough to blog about. Let's start. I went out with four others: two girls and two boys. Let's call them Mary, Jessica, Bob, and Joe. The girls decided to get ready together, so right after school, we drove to Jessica's house, and spent about an hour changing, and doing hair and makeup. I wore tights underneath my dress and rolled them up since my dress was on the shorter side, and of course we don't want any slip ups. The girls also collectively agreed to wear high heels, because hey, what other chances would we have to do so? I wore some pretty heeled knee long boots. After we were done with this, we had to drive back to our school first because Jessica had to get something from her locker. I underestimated the difficulty driving with heels on, and it was only a two minute drive, but let's just say that I'm never driving in heels ever again. Learning from this experience, I drove to Bob's house after our trip to our school without shoes on, which was by far, much easier. Anyways, at his house, we took a bunch of pictures of just us girls together while waiting for both Joe and the Uber we called to show up. We agreed to meet at Bob's house at 5, and it was already 5:10 at the time. So we called Joe, and it turns out that he took an hour trying to figure out how to put his tie on, but failed, and he was currently walking to Bob's house. Keep in mind that his house is about a 15 MINUTE walk to Bob's house, so it took ages for him to show up. He arrived sweaty, tired, tie in hand. Bob helped him put his tie on, and even by then the Uber still hadn't arrived (because we live in a traffic heavy area, and the time we were trying to leave at was the peak of the traffic). Anyways, the Uber came at 5:30, and we were off to the restaurant we reserved seats at (or so we thought) called Left Bank, located in Santana Row. Our reservations were at 6:00, and we were nervous that we weren't going to make it. On the Uber, I found out that I got accepted into SDSU early. I screamed when I saw that email. I felt a wave of relief and a huge amount of stress lift from my shoulders after I received my acceptance. Mary opened her email, and saw that she got accepted early as well in the same school. It was a nice ride to the restaurant, to say the least. Our Uber driver drops us off at Menlo Park, only - wait a minute - weren't we supposed to go to Santana Row? Santana Row is a 10 minute drive from Menlo Park. Why did he drop us off here? Turns out that Mary - who was in charge of Uber - chose the Left Bank at the Menlo Park location! We went inside, talked to the host, and thankfully, they still gave us a table. But major yikes. That could have been such a fluke, but good thing they still had space for us young, innocent kids. We order, and thank God, the food is decent, contrary to my expectations. That could have been because I read the reviews pertaining to the location in Santana Row, but we enjoyed the meal fully. I ordered salmon; below is the picture! After dinner, we decided to walk around a bit before grabbing some dessert. Bob spotted a really pretty Christmas Tree on the way to the restaurant on the Uber, and we walked in that direction. We took some pictures, and headed into a nearby bookstore to warm up. It was when we walked to get dessert when the next major mishap happened. Dessert was between Cold Stone, which was only 0.1 miles away from our location at the time, or a place called Midnight Munchies which was 0.3 miles away (or apparently it was. It ended up being about a mile away...). We all know that Cold Stone serves ice cream. Midnight Munchies, however, was a cookie shop, and the cookie photos on Yelp looked amazing. So we decided to walk over to Midnight Munchies. The journey there was not fun. Like I mentioned above, the place ended up being a mile away, and keep in mind that us girls decided to wear heels. It was not as painful for me or Jessica because I was wearing heeled boots, and Jessica wore wedges. For Mary however, she stuck with a classic high heel, the heels that are thin like a stick. It was a horrendous walk for her; she complained of sores and blisters on the bottom of her feet. So we get to the location, but we don't see the shop. Mainly because Yelp said that the shop would be in the middle of the park, and we did talk about it being sketchy, but decided to go anyways. The area was dark and deserted (or should I say, DESSERTed??), with minimal lighting, but hey, we walked a mile for this, so we might as well check it out and try to find the place, you know? We explored the park, but of course, couldn't find the shop. Disappointed, we made our way to a local Safeway, and called for an Uber. On this Uber, I had to climb to the very back of the car, and I bumped my thigh really hard on the seat. I still have the bruise, and I would provide you all with a picture of the lovely bruise, but I think it's a little too much. After that adventure, we went back to Bob's house. I changed out of my heels, threw on a nice comfortable coat, and rolled down my tights. Bob's dad made us mocktinis as well, consisting of crushed berries, cranberry juice, lemonade, and sparkling water. Here's a picture: It was 9:30 PM, and we played Settlers of Catan (a board game, for those of you who aren't familiar) until 11, which was my curfew. Unfortunately, a game takes about 2-3 hours to completely finish, so we weren't able to close out the game. We said our goodbyes, and I left to take Mary and Jessica back to their respective homes. And that was the end of my crazy, fun night.
A few days later, Jessica messages our group, and reports her tragic findings. Midnight Munchies was not a walk in cookie shop; it was a delivery company. We were hysterical, as we risked our feet for that trip, but we honestly should have seen this coming. All in all, these instances made the trip highly memorable, and honestly, everything happens for a reason, right? It was a really fun night. Hope you all enjoyed reading, and happy Sunday!

It's the first day of April (Happy April Fool's, by the way), and that means that we've completed three months of 2018 already! Let's take a moment and give ourselves a pat on the back. We've made it this far, and I really hope all of you are having a great year so far.
I thought that for today's post, a little update on how I've been doing regarding my resolutions for 2018 would be the best. If you haven't read the post, click this link to see my resolutions: https://hellamel.weebly.com/blog/new-years-resolutions-part-1 (part 1) and hellamel.weebly.com/blog/new-years-resolutions-part-2 (part 2). I think that a good schedule for these updates would be publishing one today, one the beginning of august, and one in december as well, just so you guys know what's going on and if I've been successful or unsuccessful. Let's get started! 1. Exercise more. I am so, SO glad to say that I have been keeping up with this so far. The past month, I have been working out both Saturdays and Sundays. I'd do it more often but I am just SWAMPED with schoolwork on the weekdays that I literally have no time. I'm thankful that I've been having free time during the weekends and that I've been choosing to spend it wisely by taking care of myself physically. And I do feel a lot better about myself, now that I have a little routine set up. 2. Drink more water. This is something that I tried to work on the first few weeks of 2018 but unfortunately I haven't been able to keep this up since. For example, I've been drinking the same 17 fluid ounce bottle of water for the past three days now, no refills or anything. It's quite bad. The weather definitely has something to do with it though because it's been absolutely freezing here in CA (at least for me) and I don't really get thirsty. When the weather's a bit warmer, I'll for sure be craving more fluid in my body. 3. Drink less boba. I have decreased my consumption from two drinks a week to one drink. I think that's progress right there! 4. Keep this website running and don't quit halfway. This blog is 4 months strong! I'm so happy that it's still up and running and I'm still taking time out of my day to write these posts. It is something that I really do enjoy doing. 5. Reach at least 100 followers on Twitter. I currently have 401 followers on Twitter, so yes, I have achieved this goal! I'm amazed at all the support I've been given and I thank each and everyone of you who have been stopping by and reading my posts! 6. Be more vocal. In my original new year's resolutions post, I said that I would make myself speak more in class. Well, that never happened! I'm still incredibly anxious whenever we have class discussions and I can't seem to bring myself to talk, even when I have something meaningful to add to the conversation. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but this is why I'm taking a marketing class next year, so that I'd actually be FORCED to talk. 7. More socializing! I do talk more to the people around me now. I've actually made a couple of new friends! I'm pretty proud of myself for that. I still find it hard to start a conversation, but I do try now. I think once I get more comfortable speaking with a smaller group, I'll be able to talk in a larger one. I haven't had a chance to hang out with my friends yet, seeing as we've all been busy with school. I'm planning on going out with them over spring break though, which just started this Friday for me! 8. Read more. For the past month, I have stopped reading for fun, because I just have no time at all. Before that though, I was reading on a daily basis, at least 15 minutes each day. Over spring break, I'll definitely be reading more because now I actually have time for relaxation and leisure. 9. Less overthinking. Nope. So far, I have not been able to stop or at least decrease the amount I overthink. For example, just last week, I prepared something to say in class and I spent the entire class period going over my lines. I really didn't need to do that either because the night before I spent writing and memorizing everything I was going to say. Turns out the class ended before it was even my turn! The next day, my teacher forgot about finishing the in class reports, so I spent so long worrying over nothing. I'm afraid it's giving me gray hairs. 10. Be more informed about current events. Lately I've been keeping up with the news A LOT. I have notifications from CNN, and when I have time I'll browse the web for more on what's going on. It's important to know what's happening in the world. 11. Write more. I actually started writing a story a few months ago but I have not updated it this past month because again, I'm a high school junior with absolutely no time at all. During spring break, I'll finally have more time to write and who knows, I may even publish it here on my blog. 12. Quit nail biting. Unfortunately, this bad habit still lives to this day. I just can't quit, it's literally impossible! I don't know how I managed to quit the first time around. I think I might start wearing clear nail polish, if it comes down to that (I don't like nail polish at all). All in all, I think I've been doing okay with my resolutions, so far. Some I've succeeded, some I still desperately need to work on. Luckily, there's still 9 months, including April, for me to try to work it all out! Happy Sunday! And of course, happy April Fool's Day! Hey everyone! Today's post is going to be an update on my life, mainly what's been going on, my current favorites, and other topics. I'm thinking of doing these monthly so that I keep you guys updated and also because it's a bit more personal, and I feel like it's time I do something like this. Let's begin! Date: 3/14 (pi day!) Time: 8:23 PM Current mood: Tired Books I'm currently reading: The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus), The Grapes of Wrath TV shows I'm currently watching: Supernatural, The Office, Wedding Peach (anime) Current favorite episode (of anything): "Dinner Party" (The Office 4x13) TV shows I want to watch: "Criminal Minds", "Gossip Girl", "Modern Family", "Scrubs", "Daredevil", "Lucifer" Current favorite movie: "Wonder Woman" Current favorite social media platform: Instagram (I finally made a finsta!) Current favorite chips: Kettle brand chips (sea salt), Boulder Canyon kettle cooked chips (avocado oil, sea salt) Go to drink: Gong Cha's green tea with herbal jelly, T4's mango royal tea with rainbow jelly (both of them are boba drinks), plain jasmine green tea Current favorite meal: Salad with shredded chicken, avocado, carrots, and a vinagrette Current favorite restaurant: Boiling Point (Taiwanese hot pot) Favorite song right now: "Cold" (Rich Brian), "God's Plan" (Drake) YouTubers I'm currently watching: Molt (Clash Royale, Fortnite, and other gaming videos), EthosLab (Minecraft), Elle Mills (comedy) Types of YouTube videos I'm currently watching: Gaming (mainly Fortnite gameplay), vlogging Current favorite subject: graphic design! (I'm taking digital imaging in school right now) Current favorite season: Fall or winter (loving the cold weather!) Current favorite type of weather: Rainy! Current preferred style of clothing/dress: Comfy, cozy (warm hoodies and sweatpants) Current favorite meme: the meme where Peter from Family Guy falls (lots of funny variations, search it up if you haven't heard of it!) Current favorite obsession: The Sims Mobile What's currently on my mind: Worrying about prom Current desire: A gaming PC / Laptop (so that when I run my Sims 3 / Minecraft games, it's not laggy and actually runs smoothly) Funniest thing I overheard this week: "Will you go to prom with me?" "No." (LMAO it turned out to be a joke) Funniest thing I've seen this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwWlUYqLB40 I want to dye my hair this color: Light pink I want this eye color: A light striking blue I want to meet: Stephen Curry / Kevin Durant / Klay Thompson (players of the NBA team Warriors) I want to go to: Japan / South Korea Current favorite quote: "Every precious drop of change has a ripple effect on the ocean." - Trudy Vesotsky Current favorite scent: Almond (Specifically the almond scent of the body butter sold at The Body Shop) Hey guys! So it’s Tuesday, and I just got home from school. I’ve been back at school since yesterday. I have been dreading yesterday since my last week of break. Sunday night, I didn’t want to go to bed, because if I sleep then it would feel like school is nearer, but now that I’m actually back, it’s not TOO bad. I admit that there are some positives of going back to school. I guess seeing my friends again and being able to chill with them during lunch is nice. Oh, and how I’m back to my normal schedule. Did I ever mention how I’m a very schedule-orientated person? I need to have a productive, organized list of chores and things to do, or else I’ll feel weird, and I won’t be able to function. And I have to stick with whatever plan or schedule I made for the day. This is why I absolutely loathe unplanned events. If we’re gonna hang out, you better make plans with me at least 24 hours ahead of time. No, I can’t just drop whatever I’m doing just to go to the mall with you. I have things to do! I’m a very busy person! I stick to my schedule, and that’s that. With school, and finals around the corner (the big bad finals), I’ll be able to plan out my day with no interruptions because everyone will be busy studying. How great is that? As an antisocial person, that sounds like heaven. Unfortunately, without break, that means there’s less time for Netflix and video games. I finally got Minecraft for Mac recently (I’ve only had the pocket edition) as a Secret Santa gift, and I’m addicted. All this stuff will have to be pushed back to the weekends, once again, and I’m devastated about that.
With me back at school, what does that mean for this blog? Don’t worry guys! I’ll still try my best to update as much as I possibly can. I’ll probably be less active on twitter and on this website, but entries and posts will still be coming!! I’ll have a lot to balance, as again, I have finals pretty soon. I had one of my finals before winter break, my French final (thank god for that) but I still have US history, precalculus, english, history, and AP biology to study for (yikes!) and on top of that, I really need to start self studying AP macroeconomics since I’m planning to take that test during AP week. It’ll definitely be crazy because I’m a junior and this is my first year taking APs, but it’ll definitely be quite the experience! Not gonna lie, I’m kinda scared about uni, because if I’m already swamped with work my junior year of high school, and I already feel like I’m dying inside, then when I’m in college, I will actually physically be dead from even more work. But yeah, my next blog post will probably be on Friday (ish) and I’ll probably update my design page of this website with another digital imaging project (probably Thursday). Stay tuned for that! I hope you all have a lovely week! Hey guys! I hope you all are having a great 2018 so far! Alright, so regarding my home page cover photo, which is this image down below... ... it's not the best looking thing, obviously. I created it in less than a minute right when I decided what my name and my slogan would be for my website. I'm going to be keeping the purple-yellow-black scheme though, because I don't know, I really really like the color combination. So yeah, I have plans to definitely improve that image. I'm also going to be making an actual logo for my website as well! Right now, my logo is just a bunch of smiley faces, which I also hastily created. I'm going to change it up and make my website look a lot better!
As for the page title images, I think I'm going to be keeping them just the way they are, maybe altering the fonts, but again, I'm going to be keeping the color scheme! Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on and what I'll be changing so that you won't be totally surprised when my website might look a little different. If there's anything else you guys might want to see changed or improved, let me know! Shoot me a private email by clicking the "Contact Me" box above or publicly comment down below. Thanks everyone! Hey, it’s Mel! Welcome to my new blog page! Let me tell you a little bit more about myself. The first order of business: my name. Mel is just an alias, a pseudonym. You know how some authors use a pen name instead of their real name? Like, the author of A Series of Unfortunate Events Lemony Snicket’s actual name is Daniel Handler? Exactly. Except Mel is all there is to my own pen name. Perhaps one day I will reveal my actual name, if you guys pressure me enough. Oh, and, by the way, Mel isn’t short for anything. Just thought you should know.
Oh yeah, before I forget, HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS!! 2018 will be our year, I can feel it! Alright, let’s get to the origins of this blog. Much like the creation of my pseudonym, my idea to start a blog basically sprang up, just like that (imagine me snapping me right now). I was in class one day, thinking about how my classmates were beginning to do something with their lives, something with their skills and interests, and I began to feel sorry for myself, as I basically have no talent at all. I still remember it like it was yesterday, practically because it was literally yesterday… okay, it was a few days ago (I have always been the type to act on an idea as soon as I have the opportunity to). So I was in history class. We were watching a video about American expansion, how people moved westward for new opportunities. For a new life. To start over. That idea, combined with my previous thoughts of how I felt so behind everyone else in terms of finding my passion, was, I’m not going to lie, incredibly frustrating. How was I supposed to get on with my life? It would take plenty of time to develop something, to discover more of my interests, of which I don’t have. And then it just came. I have always loved writing. I wouldn’t say I’m the best at it though. There are people who can make words sound like music. Me? I don’t think I’m that talented. I’ve written fanfictions (yes, even though they were pretty bad…), and I’ve also tried coming up with original stories (keyword: tried). Nonetheless, I’m satisfied in my creativity and my ability to express thoughts on a page. So why not start my own blog? It was a genius idea. I could incorporate elements of my own life in each entry, write about topics that interested me, all while challenging how far my creative capacity can prosper. It was all so exciting...until I realized one thing. I mean, all along, from the very first second I had this idea, I knew that I was a junior currently attending high school. I knew that I had a lot of work to do, balancing classes and homework with participating in other activities that interested me, such as art and literature. Yet the fact that I thought that I would be able to create this amazing, diverse blog that would be updated every single day, all while, again, balancing my daily life, was obviously flawed. In that exciting moment of wanting to create a heavily maintained blog, I forgot that I had other duties and responsibilities. But don’t worry, because that won’t stop me from updating AS MUCH AS I POSSIBLY CAN. I can tell, that from just writing this first piece, that I am going to love this. That this will change me as a person. Now I truly have a platform where I can build on old interests, yet explore new ideas as they come. With this blog, I can find myself, more than I ever have. Well, that was my intro/debut/first entry!! I hope that you all, my amazing readers, will continue through this journey with me. Keep in mind, that this is my first blog. If you have any private questions, comments, or advice, please, please, PLEASE leave a reply by pressing the "Contact Me" button above, or if you want to make a public comment, please scroll down. I want YOUR opinions. I will happily take any critiques you may have, because I really want to improve this blog as best I can. I truly believe that this is the start of something wonderful. With that said, I hope you all have an amazing day, and I know this is just the beginning, but I love you all already. Stay tuned for updates! |
