Hey guys, welcome to another album review! I love doing these, so it's probably gonna start being a regular topic on this blog. Today we are reviewing BLACKPINK's latest album, "KILL THIS LOVE". For those of you who don't know, BLACKPINK is one of the most popular Kpop groups out there currently. They debuted pretty recently in 2016. The group consists of four members: Jennie, Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa. I personally do not have a strict bias; all four girls rotate every time they come back with a new song/ album, LOL! But they are extremely talented girls and they were probably the first girl group that I really got into. Anyways, let's get into the album. There are 5 songs in the album, but I'm not going to review the last song because it's a remix of a song they previously released back in June of 2018, the iconic "DDU DU DDU DU". So, here are the four songs:
And here are my rankings:
You guys know the drill. Let's get into the details. 1. KILL THIS LOVE Okay. First of all, just listening to it gives me such girl power vibes. These four women are so powerful, seriously. They are such badasses and this song is a perfect embodiment of their image. I absolutely love the breakdown right before the chorus; there's so much emotion. I really like the structure and how they were able to smoothly incorporate the rap portion of the song with the vocals. Of course, Lisa always has iconic rap lines, and this song is no different. KILL THIS LOVE is the title track and so it had the music video accompanying it. Let me just say, BLACKPINK never disappoints with their visuals and video production. It's so glamorous and the sets are insane. All in all, I love this song because of the melody and how it's very strong and powerful. 2. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO Everyone's vocals slayed in this song, and there was so much emotion. We finally got some Lisa vocals as well!! I absolutely love the chorus. Listening to the song gives me a fairy tale vibe; it's upbeat, yet calming, if that makes any sense. They also released the choreography that went with the song, and I am absolutely mesmerized by their dancing. This song really fits Rose in my opinion, because it sounds really elegant and again fairy tale like, and whenever I envision Rose, I see her as a princess, seriously. But yeah, once again, I absolutely love the vocals in this song. 3. HOPE NOT This song seriously sounds like it belongs in a kdrama. This song really fits Jisoo because honestly she has that kdrama star vibe going on. It feels like it could be the OST of a kdrama, with her beautiful vocals. I think her and Jennie really slayed in this song especially. Even though it's a slower song, I actually really like it, which is unexpected. It's very calming and a nice song to wind down to after a long day. 4. KICK IT Finally, we have KICK IT. First of all, once again we got the Lisa vocals. Honestly I don't think I ever heard her sing this much before, but I her voice is so sweet and pleasing to the ear. I like the breakdown before the chorus in this song. The reason I have this song in last place is that even though I don't hate it, I don't really vibe with the melody too much. It seems like parts of the song are building up to something but we don't really get any climax throughout. That was it for my review of BLACKPINK'S "KILL THIS LOVE" album. Hope you guys enjoyed. Happy Sunday!
